2019 GOLD MEDAL AWARD RECIPIENT GILBERT VÉZINA
Dr. Gilbert Vézina is Professor of Radiology at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Division Chief of Neuroradiology at Children’s National Hospital, and the 2019 recipient of the prestigious ASPNR Gold Medal Award.
Dr. Vézina received his medical degree from McGill Medical School in 1983 and completed both his diagnostic radiology residency and his neuroradiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital under the tutelage of Dr. Juan Taveras.
Dr. Vézina began his career at Children’s National Hospital in 1990 and shortly thereafter established the Neuroradiology Fellowship Program in 1993. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Neuroradiology Program. Dr. Vézina’s contributions to the field of pediatric neuroradiology are vast; he is an accomplished academician, teacher, and mentor. He has coauthored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters, and he has collaborated in various multi-institutional trials. Dr. Vézina is known as a superb lecturer on many aspects of pediatric neuroradiology. His research interests are broad, and include epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neonatal brain injury, phakomatoses, and trauma. Furthermore, he served our society as the 8th ASPNR President from 2001 to 2002.
