RECAP 3D PRINTING PROJECT AT THE 2ND ASPNR MEETING MIAMI 2020
For those of you who were not able to join us 2 weeks ago at the Eden Roc, Miami Beach for the 2nd Annual ASPNR Meeting– let it be known that the 3D Printing Booth in the Vendor Hall, spearheaded by Sanjay Prabhu MD, was a huge success!!!
There was a spectacular selection of more than 60 models from 10 different medical institutions from the USA and abroad showing diverse examples of how 3D models can assist in the treatment and understanding of pediatric CNS disease. Models included fetal brains from the University of Sheffield, a life-sized infant thoracic cage and spine from the Mayo Clinic, that was used to demonstrate traumatic rib fractures and the fragility of the infant for jurors in a child abuse case, and conjoined twins from Great Ormond Street. The models were created using a variety of materials, colors, and textures, that showed the diverse ways in which 3D printing can be used in the medical setting.
Attendees took advantage of immediate access to experts that manned the 3D table during “Ask-Me-Anything” sessions to better understand how to set up and sustain a 3D lab at their institution and were able to see a printer demo, interact with material swatches and “just-printed” models. Attendees also viewed videos of how 3D prints have been used in patient’s diagnostic and therapeutic odysseys.
The Oral and Educational & Scientific Poster Abstract 3D Awards were on full display. These meeting awards were sponsored by the Mayo Clinic, and were conceived, executed and designed by Jay Morris MD and his team at the Mayo Clinic 3D Printing Lab.

The 3D Project was topped off by a RAFFLE for a 3D printer offered by Formlabs. The lucky winner was Dr. Sumit Pruthi’s team at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. We can’t wait to see what they produce. Stay tuned!
