Dear Colleagues and Friends,

After a difficult year with COVID-19, this President’s report comes with all good news! Our membership is growing, our finances are strong, our activities are increasing, and we are on the move!

2022 Annual ASPNR Meeting • LIVE and IN-PERSON • “If it’s January, it’s ASPNR!”

The 4th Annual meeting of the ASPNR will occur on January 7-9th, 2022 at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. This will be an “in-person” meeting, the first of 2022 and we are excited to welcome you back to sun, sand, fun and fellowship in Miami!

While the ASPNR Board recognizes that there are still many unknowns regarding the pandemic, we feel strongly that these unknowns can be effectively managed to produce an outstanding educational and networking experience for our members. It is time to renew old friendships and make new ones.

More information to follow, but please mark your calendars and plan to attend! You can’t beat Miami in January and you can’t beat ASPNR for providing the most enjoyable and educational meeting of the year!

The recipient of the 2022 ASPNR-Guerbet Research Grant will be announced at the ASPNR 2022 Annual Meeting in January 2022!

ASPNR Programming at the 59th Annual ASNR Meeting

The ASPNR is providing exciting and entertaining programming for ASNR’s 59th Annual Meeting, a virtual event scheduled for May 22-26th, 2021. The program chair is Dr. Tina Young Poussaint, a past ASPNR President and ASPNR Gold Medal Award recipient. Please join to learn from the best in what is sure to be a great experience “Bridging New Horizons”.

ASPNR – So Much More!

The ASPNR is your “go to” society for everything related to pediatric neuroradiology. In addition to all the above, we offer “Case of the Month (COM)” and “Case of the Week (COTW)” learning opportunities, online lecture slides, past Interesting Pediatric Case Sessions, and more at our ASPNR website. Visit now and often to keep up to date on the Society and all things pediatric neuroradiology!

ASPNR – Administrative

In the past year, ASPNR introduced a new organizational structure with amended articles of incorporation to align with our intended tax-exempt charitable status, developed an expanded board of directors, wrote committee charters and constructed an overall enhanced organizational structure in order to best position the Society to successfully meet future growth opportunities, increase membership and involvement, and continue its strong financial performance. More specifically, this effort involved the transition to a larger board of directors and the creation of five standing and eleven ad hoc committees to help successfully manage ASPNR’s growth into the future.

Northwest Imaging Forums (NWIF) is a company experienced in medical education and has helped the ASPNR meet its growing demands with high-quality service at affordable pricing. NWIF uses MemberClicks, a membership management software application, to more efficiently serve our members’ needs. In addition, we have engaged a new accounting firm to assist with all these exciting changes (McMahon & Co, Ltd).

Through the necessary documentation needed to implement change and the associated challenges, the Board has sought advice from legal counsel, Robert Heist, Esq., from R. Connor & Associates. Mr. Heist, an expert on corporate law and nonprofit governance, has served as past chairman of the Hershey Trust Company, an organization with an $18 billion endowment. Mr. Heist is the spouse of our ASPNR Board member Michelle Silvera, M.D., and has performed a substantial amount of work on behalf of ASPNR pro bono and/or at substantially discounted rates, providing tremendous value and savings to the Society and membership.

Looking Forward

It has never been a more exciting time to be a member of ASPNR! We are growing and strong. The future is full of engagement, learning, friendship, and improved patient care. Please keep your membership current to benefit from all our activities and support the Society which works hard to support you. And of course, remember to register for our IN-PERSON Annual Meeting in Miami at the Eden Roc Hotel, January 7-9, 2022!

Sincerely,
Laurence Eckel, MD
ASPNR President
