IN MEMORIAM: CHARLES RAYMOND FITZ, MD

On February 23, 2019, Charles “Chuck” Raymond Fitz, MD, a founder in the field of pediatric neuroradiology, passed away at age 81.

Chuck attended medical school at the University of Michigan, followed by a radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and a fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He stayed on as faculty at SickKids, eventually becoming the section head of Neuroradiology. During his tenure there he co-authored one of the original textbooks on pediatric neuroradiology with Dr. Derek Harwood-Nash. He later became section head of neuroradiology at Children’s National Medical Center before transitioning to UPMC CHP where he held the prestigious title of Radiologist-in-Chief for a period.

From 2003-2004, Chuck served as the President of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology. He was a huge supporter of the ASPNR and subspecialty at large!

Chuck enjoyed traveling the world, drinking good wine, and driving fast cars! He will be remembered as a renowned educator and enthusiast, whose early interest in “early life” neuroradiology truly paved the way for those following him and made a difference for the patients they serve.
